Mumbai: The domestic travel boom in India continues to accelerate, fueling a significant surge in car rental related searches, according to Justdial’s latest consumer trends report.

The data reveals a sharp seasonal and year-on-year rise in demand for self-drive, luxury, and outstation car rentals, pointing to a decisive shift in mobility preferences among Indian travellers.

As per the report, Summer 2025 saw a 21% increase in car rental related searches compared to the same period in 2024. Compared to Winter 2024, searches rose by 36%, driven by a sharp uptick in road travel, short getaways, and intercity leisure trips.

Car Rental Related Searches: Key Trends from Winter to Summer
  • Luxury car rental searches tripled across India, led by Allahabad (5x), Kanpur (4x), Lucknow (3.5x), and Delhi (2x).
  • Self-drive car rentals surged by 67%, with Visakhapatnam (103%), Pune (86%), and Mumbai (72%) showing strong momentum.
  • Traditional car rental services saw a 48% growth, with Kolkata (65%), Jaipur (52%), and Lucknow (50%) leading demand.
  • Outstation-car rentals increased by 19%, with key activity from Patna (45%), Indore (37%), and Coimbatore (25%).

Year-on-Year Growth (Summer 2025 vs Summer 2024):

  • Luxury car-rentals rose 51%, with Kanpur (79%), Allahabad (63%), and Delhi (60%) being top growth centers.
  • Self-drive rentals grew 16% YoY, with Pune (46%), Mumbai (34%), and Delhi (29%) contributing significantly.
  • The overall car-rental category rose by 8%, with Jaipur (43%), Delhi, and Lucknow seeing the highest spikes.
  • Outstation rentals maintained a steady 7% growth, with demand driven by Patna, Coimbatore, and Mumbai.

The report highlights a growing consumer inclination toward flexible, premium, and autonomous mobility solutions.
